Pitchers dominate as #1 Wingate moves to 22-3 on the year

Franklin Springs, Ga.----Five Wingate University pitchers combined to allow just one earned run Saturday afternoon, as the top-ranked Bulldogs swept Emmanuel College in NCAA Division II baseball action. Wingate won the opener 6-2, while prevailing 2-1 in game two to improve to 22-3 on the season. The Lions fall to 11-17 overall.

- Wingate out-hit Emmanuel 13-7
- The Bulldogs had all four extra-base hits and both homers
- The Lions left eight on base; the 'Dogs stranded five

- Andrew Motsinger was three-for-five with a homer and two RBI

- Motsinger followed with an RBI single to put the 'Dogs on top by three
- A Wingate error and LaCross sacrifice fly made it 4-2

EIGHTH INNING

- Bryant drew a leadoff walk, then moved to second on a Mitch Farris single
- McNeely's RBI single plated Bryant to make it 5-2

NINTH INNING

- Motsinger's solo shot put Wingate on top by four
- Two errors and a walk loaded the bases for Emmanuel in the bottom of the frame
- Avant came in and got the strikeout to end the game

WRAPUP

- McCullough got the win, moving to 4-1 on the year
- He allowed an unearned run on four hits in six innings, striking out nine and walking none
- The All-American has a 1.48 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 24 1/3 innings of work this year
- Avant notched his first save of the year
- Jake Denham took the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings, striking out three and walking two
