Wingate is 19th after first day of Lander Bearcat Golf Classic

Day one results

Greenwood, S.C.----The Wingate University men's golf team is 19th out of 22 teams after 36 holes of the Bearcat Golf Classic on the Greenwood Country Club layout. Freshman Collin Welborn leads the Bulldogs with his 147, tying the WU newcomer for 24th place. Welborn shot a collegiate-best 72 in the second round.
 
Lander University is hosting the Bearcat Golf Classic with 22 teams and 112 student-athletes comprising the field. Carson-Newman leads the event after a first day score of one-over-par 577. Barton is one stroke back at 578. Wingate shot a 306 in the first round and a 304 in the second round for a total of 610.

- Only four strokes separate Wingate's top four first-round scores
- Welborn (72) and Parziale (75) had the Bulldogs' two best second-round scores
- Wingate's line-up features one senior (Parziale) and one sophomore (Fleming)
- Welborn, Dutton and Smith are freshmen
- His four-over-par 74 was Wingate's low score in the second round
- Only four strokes separate first-place from fourth-place on the team leader board
- After Carson-Newman and Barton, Lander (579) and Clayton State (581) are third and fourth
- West Georgia is fifth at 586, followed by Erskine in sixth-place with a 587
- North Georgia (589), Belmont Abbey (590), Coker (590) and Lander's B team (591) round out the top 10
- Three players share the 36-hole lead with identical scores of five-under-par 139, led by Barton senior Bryson Boyette
- Boyette is joined by sophomores Jonathan Nielsen (Carson-Newman) and Linus Jonsson (Lander)
- Peach Belt Conference member Lander is hosting this event at the Greenwood Country Club in Greenwood, S.C.
 
Wingate University
