Wingate’s Mullis and Rebollo pick up victories at the Electric City Invitational Saturday

Wingate University's Tucker Mullis and Gemma Rebollo won the men's shot put and the women's 5000 meters, respectively, at the Electric City Invitational, hosted by Anderson University Saturday. Rebollo recorded a triumphant time of 17:25.09, a season-best for the Bulldogs. Mullis' gold-medal throw covered 15.74 meters. All total, Wingate posted 34 top-10 finishes. The inaugural Electric City Invitational featured 700-plus student-athletes from 24 schools.
 
Wingate women's highlights
 
- Rebollo was making her outdoor debut at the Anderson-hosted meet
- Amber Scott finished second to her teammate in the 5000 meters with her personal-best time of 17:45.27
- Valerie Daehler placed second in the high jump with her season-best mark of 1.65 meters
- Danielle Crawford and Victoria McEachern were third (12.55 meters) and eighth (11.08), respectively, in the shot put
- Anna Torras was third in the 800 meters with her season-best time of 2:17.72
- Abby Heath finished third in 400 meter hurdles with her season-best time of 1:05.91
- Three Bulldogs earned top-10 placements in the triple jump
- Ennessey Sorrells led the way, taking third place with her career-best mark of 11.38 meters
- Daehler and Lauren Walton were seventh (11.22 meters) and 10th (10.47), respectively, in the triple jump
- Both Daehler and Walton achieved personal-best marks in the triple jump Saturday
- Lexie May claimed sixth place in the javelin throw with her mark of 30.30 meters
- Carly Platt was ninth in the discus throw with her mark of 32.91 meters
- Wingate's 4x400 meter relay team finished third with a time of 4:02.60
- The Bulldog 4x100 meter relay quartet finished seventh with a time of 50.15
- The 4x400 time is 10 seconds faster than Wingate's previous 2022 best
 
Wingate men's highlights
 
- Mullis was joined in the shot put top 10 by Tom Kalliske, who finished sixth (13.91 meters)
- Elliot Zirwas earned two silver medals in the discus (48.48 meters) and the hammer (47.57)
- Kalliske (PR of 44.14 meters) and Mullis (43.17) were seventh and eighth, respectively, in the hammer throw
- Kalliske finished sixth in the discus throw with his season-best effort of 41.73 meters
- Charlie Wakefield (1:54.82) and Jacob Pickering (1:55.73 PR) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800 meters
- Felix Nadeborn (3:58.07 PR) and Henning Kunze (3:58.58 PR) were fourth and seventh, respectively, in the 1500 meters
- Tanaka Nzombe was fifth in the high jump with his mark of 1.81 meters
- Three Bulldogs: Darius Weathers, Timothy Young and Nzombe finished in the long jump top 10
- Weathers led the way with his fifth-place performance, thanks to his mark of 6.69 meters
- Young (6.48 meters) and Nzombe (PR of 6.28 meters) were seventh and ninth, respectively
- Thomas Nulty was eighth in the javelin throw with his mark of 44.98 meters
- Dennis Trukawka was ninth in the triple jump with his mark of 12.50 meters
- Wingate's 4x400 meter relay team finished sixth with a season-best time of 3:32.39
- The Bulldog 4x100 meter relay quartet finished seventh with a time of 43.63
 
Next on the Horizon
 
Wingate will compete in two events next weekend: The University of Virginia Challenge Friday and Saturday and the Lenoir-Rhyne University Outdoor Open on Saturday. Anderson University is hosting the South Atlantic Conference outdoor track and field championships, slated for May 5-6.
