Seaver King named AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week

Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University freshman infielder Seaver King has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference baseball Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday morning. King earns Player of the Week accolades for the first time in his career.

King had a big week for the #2 Bulldogs, helping Wingate go 5-0 while improving to 38-5 on the season and 18-2 in SAC play. He went 11-for-19 on the week, hitting .579 with a .619 on-base percentage, notching a double, homer, 10 RBI and eight runs scored. He had a hit in every game, with multiple hits in four of the five contests while scoring a run in all five games and driving in a run in four of five games. King also stole three bases in three attempts last week.

King started his week by going two-for-four against Belmont Abbey with a double and a grand slam, his grand slam gave the 'Dogs a one-run lead that they would never relinquish. King was three-for-four against Erskine Wednesday, driving in three runs and scoring twice to help the 'Dogs erase an 8-1 deficit and win 14-9. He was three-for-four with a pair of RBI and two runs scored in the opener at Tusculum. King was two-for-three with an RBI and run scored in the 5-4 game two win. He added a hit and scored one of the two runs in Saturday's 2-0 victory.

King is hitting .372 with two homers, two triples, three doubles, 19 RBI and 20 runs scored on the season, stealing six bases on six attempts. He is currently riding a 13-game hitting streak, driving in 17 runs during that time and scoring 13 runs. King has multiple hits in six of those 13 games.

Wingate is back in action Tuesday, traveling to UNC Pembroke at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs return home this weekend, hosting a three-game SAC series against Mars Hill, starting Friday at 6 p.m. The teams meet for a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m., celebrating Senior Day with a ceremony before the opening contest.
