Wingate announces five inductees for 2022 Sports Hall of Fame Class

Wingate, N.C.----Five new members will be added to the Wingate University Sports Hall of Fame during the induction ceremony Friday, Oct. 21. The five new members of the Hall of Fame are men's swimming's Kyle Corcoran (2010), women's golf's Ashley Denton (2011), volleyball's Stormi Gale (2011), men's soccer's Luke Mulholland (2011) and men's cross country's Jayce Watson (2009). This year's Hall of Fame ceremony will take place over Homecoming weekend. The five inductees will also be honored at halftime of the football game on Oct. 22.

"There have been a great number of outstanding student-athletes who have represented Wingate University over the years," Director of Athletic Foundation and Bulldog Club Director Bill Nash says. "Some have been identified by the Hall of Fame selection committee for induction. Each year there is no shortage of more than worthy candidates being considered. The discussions of this group of informed Wingate athletics fans, staff, previous student-athletes and coaches recounts performances and statistics relevant to our various sports and eras of competition. This year's class emerged from this research and eventual voting process. The committee congratulates these five Wingate University Bulldog standouts for their accomplishments and selection for induction during Homecoming Weekend 2022."

KYLE CORCORAN
Men's Swimming (Class of 2010)

Corcoran piled up the honors during his four-year Bulldog career, earning 14 All-American trophies to go along with 19 All-BMC selections. He helped lead Wingate to three consecutive BMC Championships from 2008 through 2010. The 'Dogs finished sixth at the NCAA National Championships in each of Corcoran's final two seasons, after registering 11th-place national showings in each of his first two years.

For his career, Corcoran picked up 10 BMC titles, with five individual championships to go along with five relay titles. He won the 400 Individual Medley each of his four years at the BMC Championships, while earning first team All-American accolades in the event each of his final three years.

ASHLEY DENTON
Women's Golf (Class of 2011)

Denton was a four-time All-SAC honoree that led the Bulldogs to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009. She won the individual SAC championship in 2008, while leading the 'Dogs to the team title the following season. She also earned a spot as an individual in the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Denton posted a 78.28 stroke average in her career, posting 25 top-10 finishes, 17 top-five showings and winning a school-record five individual titles.

Denton won a pair of individual titles during her freshman season, including the SAC Tournament. She added two more victories as a sophomore to help guide the 'Dogs to the SAC title and NCAA Tourney bid, while adding a title in her senior season. Denton was Wingate's all-time leader in stroke average for nearly a decade, currently ranking fourth on the school's all-time list. She is Wingate's all-time leader with 42 career tournaments played and 90 total rounds. She is also the all-time leader in counting scores in program history, with her score counting 98.8 percent of her rounds played. Her 135 career birdies are good for third in program history.

STORMI GALE
Volleyball (Class of 2011)

Gale pushed Wingate volleyball to new heights during her incredible four-year career, leading the Bulldogs to 131-8 overall record and 64-0 SAC mark in her four seasons, piling up eight conference titles and the program's first-ever regional championship in 2010. The four-time first team All-SAC honoree became the first player in program history to earn All-American accolades, picking up Daktronics first team honors in 2009 and second team recognition in 2010, while earning AVCA third team accolades both years.

After earning SAC Freshman of the Year honors in 2007, Gale was named the SAC Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010. She was named the SAC Female Athlete of the Year her senior season as well, while also earning Academic All-America accolades. Gale was one of 30 finalists for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award. She finished her incredible career with 1,545 kills, 1,083 digs, 421 blocks and a .320 hitting percentage. She is the school's all-time leader in kills per set, ranking second in kills and third in hitting percentage.

LUKE MULHOLLAND
Men's Soccer (Class of 2011)

Mulholland's standout Wingate career paved the way for a 10-year professional career in the MLS. The four-time first team All-SAC honoree and three-time All-American was named the 2009 SAC Player of the year. He led the Bulldogs to the 2010 regular season SAC title and three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Mulholland piled up 37 goals and 26 assists in his Bulldog career, good for 100 points. He poured in 17 goals during his junior season, adding three assists to earn first team All-American accolades. Those 17 goals included eight game-winners. Mulholland followed by handing out a team-best 10 assists as a senior, as the 'Dogs went 15-4 overall and 8-1 in league play to capture the regular season SAC title, earning their third NCAA Tourney bid in four years. Mulholland spent 10 years with Real Salt Lake of the MLS, playing 123 regular season matches while collecting 16 goals and 16 assists. Real Salt Lake made five appearances in the MLS Cup playoffs during his career.

JAYCE WATSON
Men's Cross Country (Class of 2009)

Watson cemented his place as one of Wingate's top runners by winning back-to-back individual SAC titles during his final two seasons. The four-time first team All-SAC honoree earned All-Region accolades three times in his career. He piled up 10 victories during his four years as a Bulldog.

Watson earned Academic All-America accolades during his senior season, which also saw him win his second straight individual SAC title. He has two of Wingate's four individual SAC championships in program history. Watson was an individual qualifier for the NCAA National championships in each of his final three seasons. He finished his Wingate career as the school's all-time leader in the 8K and 10K.
