Wingate’s Dutton is second, Bulldogs are fourth in Jennison Cup

St. Augustine, Fla.----The Wingate University men's golf team is fourth after the first two rounds of the 12th annual Jay Jennison Cup, hosted by Flagler College at The Palencia Club. The Bulldogs shot a 299 in the morning round and an even-par 288 in the afternoon session for a 36-hole total of 587. The University of Mount Olive leads after 36 holes with a 578.
 
Bulldog sophomore Colin Dutton is tied for second place on the individual leader board with a four-under-par 140. He had an even-par 72 in the first round and a four-under-par 68 in the second round. Wingate freshman Filippo Grossi is tied for seventh place at 145. He had a tournament-best, six-under-par 66 in the second round.
 
The final round is slated for Tuesday morning. Eleven schools and 66 student-athletes are playing in the 12th annual Jay Jennison Cup.

- Grossi's second-round 66 is only one stroke away from Wingate's NCAA record for low round
- Three players share the 65 mark, including Grossi's sophomore teammate Jake Smith
- Grossi made a 13-stroke adjustment from his first-round 79
- Freshman Alfie Storer is making his Bulldog debut in the Jennison Cup
- Junior Will Hunsucker matched his career-low round with his first-round 78
- Host Flagler is two strokes behind 36-hole leader Mount Olive with a 580

- Flagler junior Trey Wilson is the 36-hole leader with a five-under-par 139
- Wilson posted scores of 71 and 68 on Monday
- Dutton is tied for second place with Belmont Abbey junior Will Locey at four-under-par 140
- Locey turned in scorecards of 71 and 69, while Dutton recorded scores of 72 and 68
- The Bulldogs start round three at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning (shotgun start)
- Wingate is paired with Embry-Riddle and Rollins
 
The Jay Jennison Cup
 
The Jay Jennison Cup is named in honor of previous Flagler men's golf coach Jay Jennison, who passed away July 9, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the head coach for the Saints in 2007-08 and for the fall 2008 campaign. Jennison was the 17th recipient of the J. Edward "Red" Cox Award, which is given to a person who has made a positive impact in athletics on the St. Augustine community.
