Wingate pours in season-high 107 points to cruise past Mars Hill

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs set season highs for points, field goals made, assists, three-point percentage and threes made Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 107-81 victory over Mars Hill University in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 13-7 overall and 8-3 in the SAC, while the Lions fall to 5-14 overall and 1-9 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 59 percent from the field, while Mars Hill shot 50 percent
- The 'Dogs hit 13-of-27 threes, Mars Hill was six-for-16 from deep
- The Bulldogs held a 31-30 rebounding advantage and 11-9 edge in second-chance points

FIRST HALF

- A 10-0 WU run, led by five points from Clark gave the 'Dogs a 23-13 lead six minutes in
- A Kory Davis three-point play cut the lead to five
- A Cottingham triple and Josh Massey layup pushed the advantage back to 10 at 28-18
- Elmore buried back-to-back triples to put WU on top 34-20 at the 8:42 mark
- A Kendall Davis layup with six minutes to go pulled the Lions back within four
- Wingate scored the next 13 points to take a 47-30 lead with under four minutes to go
- Cottingham had four points in the spurt, while a Nixon three-point play capped the flurry
- An Elmore three and Letino dunk made it 56-35 with 50 seconds left
- Two Nixon free throws in the final 30 seconds gave WU a 58-37 halftime advantage

SECOND HALF

- Threes from Clark and Nixon gave the Bulldogs a 66-39 lead at the 17:14 mark
- Cottingham buried a triple to push the lead to 28
- An Andreas Wilson three at the midway point of the half made it 84-59
- A layup and two free throws from Ahman Greenidge put the 'Dogs on top 107-76 with 1:52 to go
