Bulldogs move to 15-2 on the year with victory over Catawba

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs overcame a slow start Tuesday evening, piling up 36 kills while hitting .387 over the final two sets en route to a 3-1 victory over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate won by scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-17 and 25-15 to improve to 15-2 overall and 8-1 in the SAC. The Indians fall to 6-8 overall and 4-6 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Wingate had 60 kills and 15 errors in 150 attacks, hitting .300
- Catawba had 39 kills and 20 errors in 142 swings, hitting .134
- The Bulldogs held a 72-67 advantage in digs
- Wingate had nine of the 14 blocks on the night

FIRST SET

- A Jordan Danielson kill gave Catawba an 11-7 lead

- A Saye kill and Maya Van Heyst ace cut the lead to one at 13-12
- A Kelci Love kill put the Indians on top 17-14
- Kills from Rowoldt and Johnson pulled Wingate back within one at 19-18
- A Stacherski kill gave the 'Dogs a 22-21 advantage
- Kills from Danielson and Love highlighted a 3-0 run that gave Catawba a 24-22 lead
- Morland answered with a kill to make it 24-23
- A Wingate error ended the frame

THIRD SET

- Three Saye kills and a Mullen ace gave the Bulldogs a 6-1 lead
- A Devyn Berg ace pulled Catawba within one at 10-9
- Saye and Johnson each had a kill and a block in a 5-0 spurt that put WU on top 17-12
- A Saye kill and two Mullen aces pushed the lead to nine at 22-13
- A Robertson kill made it 24-16; Morland ended it with a kill

FOURTH SET

- Two Young kills and two Rowoldt kills sparked a 4-0 run that gave Wingate a 9-3 lead
- The 'Dogs added a 6-0 run to stretch the lead to 10 at 15-5
- Rowoldt had two kills in the flurry; Morland added a block and a kill
- A Johnson block and Robertson kill made it 18-8
- Kills from Saye and Young gave the Bulldogs a 22-10 advantage
