Pedro Santos has been named the SAC Defensive Player of the Week. Pozos earns the honor for the second time this year and in his career, while Santos earns the honor for the first time in his career.
The duo led the Bulldogs to a pair of SAC victories, as Wingate moved to 4-1 in league play. The 'Dogs started the week with a 3-0 victory at Newberry, while closing out the week with a 2-0 win over Lenoir-Rhyne.
Pozos had two goals and an assist on the week. The freshman did all of his damage in the first game of the week, collecting five points at Newberry. He scored the first goal of the game, then assisted on the second goal. He capped his night by scoring the final goal of the contest in the 3-0 victory. Pozos notched three shots against the Bears Saturday, including a shot on goal.
Santos helped anchor a Wingate defense that did not allow a goal in 180 minutes of action. Santos and the Bulldogs allowed just 12 shots in the two contests, with just two shots goal. Santos also made a huge contribution to the offense, netting the game-winning goal in Saturday's 2-0 victory against Lenoir-Rhyne.
Pozos leads the Bulldogs with seven goals this season, adding two assists for a team-best 16 points. He ranks second in the SAC in goals and third in points. Santos has helped lead a defense with a 1.50 goals-against average. The 'Dogs ranks second in goals-against average in league play, allowing just three goals in five SAC contests.
Wingate is back in action Wednesday, hosting #5 Limestone at 7:30 p.m.
