Clark and Hege lead Bulldogs to 76-74 victory at UVA Wise in SAC opener

Wise, Va.----Wingate University All-SAC guards Hannah Clark and Emily Hege combined for 53 points Saturday afternoon, leading the Bulldogs to a 76-74 victory at UVA Wise in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action. Wingate improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while the Cavaliers fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.

- Wingate shot 44 percent from the field, going nine-for-18 from three-point range (50 percent)

- Clark answered with two free throws to push the lead back to five
- A Sable Burnside bucket with three seconds left made it 20-17

SECOND QUARTER

- Clark scored the first seven points of the second quarter to put the 'Dogs on top 27-17
- She buried another three to make it 30-20 with seven minutes left
- A Sarah Burton triple pulled the Cavs within two with four minutes remaining
- Burton's layup with four seconds left made it 34-34 at halftime

THIRD QUARTER

- A Kaitlin Bailey three at the 7:49 mark gave the Cavs a 41-39 advantage
- WU scored the next seven, getting a Hege triple and Lia Anderson bucket to go on top by five
- Kaitlin Burger's jumper at the midway point tied it at 46
- A Ross triple a minute later put the Cavaliers on top by two
- Hege's four-point play with a minute remaining gave the 'Dogs a 57-55 lead
- Ross's bucket at the buzzer tied it at 57

FOURTH QUARTER

- Two Breedlove buckets and a Beale layup gave Wingate a 63-57 advantage at the 7:38 mark
- Baraldi knocked down a three with 6:37 to go to make it 68-59
- Burton cut it to four with a triple, but a Hege layup made it 70-64 with 4:52 remaining
- Burnside's jumper with 1:47 remaining pulled UVA Wise within a point
- Hege answered with a bucket to stretch the lead back to three
- Burger made two free throws to cut it to one, but two Hege free throws made it 74-71 with a minute left
- Burton's layup with six seconds remaining cut the lead back to one
- Hege made a free throw with four seconds left to make it 75-73
- Burton was fouled on the other end, making one free throw to cut it to one
- Clark responded with a free throw on the other end to make the final margin 76-74
