‘Dogs pour in season-high 110 point to move to 3-0 in league play

Hartsville, S.C.----After trailing by 15 points in the first half, the Wingate University Bulldogs answered with an emphatic response, using a 25-point turnaround to take a 10-point halftime lead before eventually leading by as many as 30 in the second half, prevailing 110-88 in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Wednesday night at Coker College. The Bulldogs improve to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the SAC, while the Cobras fall to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in league play. Wingate hits the century mark for the second time this season. The 110 points are the most the 'Dogs have scored since putting up 110 points at Newberry on Feb. 20, 2019. The last time Wingate scored over 110 points was a 120-point performance against Mars Hill Feb. 16, 2013.

- Coker shot 37 percent from the field, connecting on six-of-35 shots from deep (17 percent)

- Donell Nixon added 23 points, eight assists and six boards, going 11-for-11 at the line

- Vontrez Roberts had 13 points and seven boards on six-of-eight shooting
- Corbin Pack collected 11 points, four rebounds and two assists, knocking down three triples

FIRST HALF

- A Hayden Abdullah layup three minutes in gave Coker an early 10-3 lead
- Demar Anderson's triple stretched the lead to nine a minute later
- Buckets from Massey and Taylor cut the lead to seven at the 14:41 mark
- An Ian Blue three with 11:19 to go gave the Cobras a 26-11 advantage
- Lingo's triple at the midway point pulled the 'Dogs back within 10
- An Anthony Burch three-point play gave Coker a 29-16 advantage
- Wingate scored the next 12, getting six points from Roberts to make it 29-28 with 6:46 left
- Marvin Brumfield's layup put the Cobras back on top by three
- Three Nixon free throws tied it at 33 with five minutes remaining
- Taylor's layup gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the night at the 4:44 mark
- An Abdullah jumper with four minutes left put Coker back on top
- Aaron Hall's layup put WU on top by two, but a Burch layup tied it at 39
- Wingate scored the final 10 points of the half to take a 49-39 halftime advantage
- Taylor scored the first four points of the flurry, while Pack capped it with two triples

SECOND HALF

- Taylor's dunk put WU on top by 12, but a Mahmoud Bangura bucket cut the lead to nine
- Wingate used a 19-2 run to extend the lead to 26
- A Taylor layup and Massey dunk started the spurt, with back-to-back Nixon buckets pushing the lead to 17
- Two Lingo triples and a Hall three-point play made it 73-47 with 12:52 to go
- A Brumfield layup at the 9:48 mark cut the lead to 17
- Layups from Lingo and Taylor pushed the WU lead back to 22 at 92-70
- A Pack triple and Nixon layup made it 101-75 at the 5:48 mark
- A Pack layup and two Nixon free throws put the 'Dogs on top 107-77 with 3:47 left
- The Cobras got no closer than 22 the rest of the way
