Allendale, Mich.----Nine Wingate University indoor track and field student-athletes celebrated Christmas early this year, posting seven NCAA Division II provisional times and shattering two school standards in the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open inside the Kelly Family Sports Center Friday.
 
Wingate GVSU Holiday Classic men's notes
 
- Hamza Chahid won the 5000 meters with his time of 13:56.45
- His mark is a new school record and an NCAA Division II provisional time
- Soheil Boufrizi finished third in the 5000 meters (13:59.88, D2 P)
- Wingate's previous 5000 meters' top mark was 14:07.29
- Chahid (fourth) and Boufrizi (seventh) are listed in the D2 5000 meters top 10
- Ricardo Barbosa won the 3000 meters with his time of 8:12.95 (D2 P)
- Antonin Saint Peyre was third in the same event (8:26.93)

- Sira Bo finished fifth in the mile with her time of 4:52.32
- Her mark is a new school record and an NCAA Division II provisional time
- Wingate's previous top mark in the mile was 4:57.20
- Brooklyn Pierce finished third in the 3000 meters (9:52.28, D2 P)
- Tatjana Mense was next, taking fourth in the 3000 meters (9:54.45, D2 P)
- Mollie Scott was 12th in the 5000 meters (17:16.93, D2 P)
- Anna Torras finished 12th in the mile (5:03.19)

- The Bulldogs will take a competition break for the Christmas holiday
- Wingate will have three competitions the weekend of Jan. 19-21, 2024
- First is the Carolina Challenge, hosted by the University of South Carolina
- The USC Gamecocks host this event Jan. 19-20 in Columbia
