Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs pulled off another impressive victory Saturday evening in Cuddy Arena, erasing a 19-point deficit and getting a go-ahead three from Donell Nixon with two seconds left to prevail 84-83 over Carson-Newman University in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action. Wingate pushes its winning streak to 10, moving to 14-3 overall and 9-0 in the SAC. The Eagles fall to 13-4 overall and 6-3 in league play. The 'Dogs continue with their best SAC start in program history, while the 10-game winning streak is the longest since an 11-game streak in the 2016-17 season.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 53 percent from the field, going six-for-13 from three-point range (46 percent)
- C-N shot 49 percent from the field, connecting on 10-of-26 shots from deep (39 percent)
- The 'Dogs shot 60 percent from the field in the second half, going six-of-eight from three-point range
- Carson-Newman held a 38-25 rebounding advantage and 13-9 edge in second-chance points

- Josh Massey scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half, adding four rebounds, a steal and an assist
- Kendall Taylor had 22 points on nine-of-12 shooting to go along with five boards, three assists and two steals
- Vontrez Roberts added 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists on five-of-seven shooting
- Nixon contributed 13 points, two boards and two assists
- Corbin Pack and Jaden Lingo registered five and four points, respectively
- Taylor Bell had two points, four assists, three rebounds and a steal

FIRST HALF

- A Roberts jumper gave Wingate a 6-5 lead just over two minutes in
- A John Zhao three put the Eagles on top by two;  C-N would not trail again until the final two seconds of the game
- A Trey Hubbard triple capped a 9-0 spurt that put the Eagles on top 19-10
- Taylor's layup cut the lead to seven at the 12:31 mark
- Carson-Newman scored the next nine, taking a 30-14 lead on a Zhao triple with 10:31 left
- Hubbard's layup with 9:10 remaining put the Eagles on top by 19
- Wingate scored the next eight, with four different Bulldogs notching buckets to make it 35-24
- A Roberts three-point play and Massey layup pulled the 'Dogs within nine with 2:38 to go
- A Hubbard jumper extended the C-N lead back to 12 with 19 seconds left
- Three Nixon free throws in the final seconds made it 47-38 at halftime

SECOND HALF

- A layup and jumper from Jack Browder gave the Eagles a 61-47 advantage four minutes in
- Back-to-back Massey triples cut the lead to eight at the 13:51 mark
- Browder's layup at the midway point stretched the lead back to 12 at 71-59
- Nixon knocked down a triple a minute later to trim the lead to seven
- A Pack three at the 8:18 mark made it 73-67
- A Nick Brenegan three with 7:08 to go put the Eagles back on top by 10
- C-N would not score again until the final 90 seconds
- Two Lingo buckets and a Roberts free throw made it 78-73 with 5:38 to go
- A Massey jumper and Nixon bucket pulled the 'Dogs within a point with two minutes left
- Hubbard ended the C-N drought with a triple, making it 81-77 with 1:30 remaining
- Nixon answered with a layup, while the 'Dogs rebounded a C-N miss on the other end
- Bell was fouled on the fast break and knocked down two big free throws, tying it at 81 with 38 seconds left
- Browder answered with a layup, putting Carson-Newman on top 83-81 with 13 seconds to go
- Wingate called a timeout with eight seconds left, then inbounded it from around half court
- Nixon got it to the right wing, started to drive, then stepped back for the dagger triple with 2.5 seconds left
- C-N got the ball to half court and called timeout with 1.1 seconds left
- A desperation baseline heave was off the mark, giving the 'Dogs the victory
