Walcher and Kosmrlj advance to ITA Regional Semifinals

ITA Regionals Results

Sumter, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs had a pair of players advance to the semifinals of the ITA Southeast Regionals. On the men's side, Florian Walcher has advanced, while Chloe Kosmrlj has punched her ticket to the semifinals on the women's side.

Walcher took down Thomas Cardona of Columbus State in the round of 16, while rallying for a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory in the semifinals over Daniel Hammond of Columbus State. He will take on Pedro Liborio of North Georgia at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to the championship match Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.

Kosmrlj rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Carolina Reis of North Georgia in the round of 16 to advance to the quarterfinals. She took down Ami Miya of Catawba 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals to punch her ticket to the semifinals. Kosmrlj will face Nikoline Cullacksen of Columbus State in the semifinals Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. The winner will play for the championship Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs had five players advance to the round of 16, with Gabriel Constantino dropping a 6-3, 6-3 match against Mico Vincent Fenollar of Anderson. Luka Brown won his opening set 6-3 against Camilo Cano of Columbus State, but dropped the final two frames 6-2, 6-1.

On the women's side, Suzuka Sambyakugari was also in the round of 16, dropping a tight 7-5, 6-4 contest against Dana Heimen of Flagler.

Tuesday will be the final day of the ITA Regionals, with the both fields of 128 student-athletes down to four players on each side.
