No. 22/No. 25 Bulldogs finish fourth at Currahee to complete fall season

Toccoa, Ga.----The Wingate University men's golf team concluded its fall season Tuesday, shooting a nine-over-par 297 in the final round of the McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate Invitational on the Currahee Golf Club layout. The Bulldogs finished fourth in the Anderson University-hosted event with a 54-hole score of 892, five strokes in front of South Atlantic Conference foe Catawba.
 
The No. 22/No. 25 Wingate golfers were only six strokes away from a top-three finish achieved by Shorter at 886. No. 32/RV USC Beaufort and No. 14/No. 20 Columbus State were declared co-team champions, as the Sand Sharks and the Cougars shot identical 54-hole scores of 871.
 
Third round quick hits
 
- Junior Lewis Beeden and graduate student Jordan Hyland led the 'Dogs Tuesday
- Both Beeden and Hyland shot matching rounds of even-par 72
- Beeden played a lovely stretch of golf with 11 flawless holes in mid-round
- The Londoner had five birdies and six pars on the aforementioned 11 holes
- His three-round total of three-over-par 219 put him in a tie for ninth place
- Beeden's performance ranks as his best finish as a Bulldog
- Hyland had four birdies Tuesday on the way to his even-par 72 round
- Hyland had his best round of the week by two strokes
- Junior Alfie Storer and freshman Brandon Skidmore shot 76 and 77, respectively
- Skidmore was the 36-hole leader at four-under-par 140
- Skidmore tied for fifth at one-over-par 217, his best WU finish
 
McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate Invitational notes
 
- Columbus State graduate student Martin Gruendemann earned medalist honors
- The CSU Cougar completed three rounds at two-under-par 214
- Two student-athletes finished one stroke back at one-under-par 215
- Seven SAC schools competed in the event with Wingate the top Dog
