Wingate finishes 12th in Hurricane Invitational

Albany, Ga.----The No. 21 Wingate University men's golf team shot a one-under-par 287 in the final round to finish 12th in the Hurricane Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southwestern on the Doublegate Country Club layout this week. Junior Alfie Storer led the Bulldogs, finishing the week with a one-under-par 71 to shoot a tournament total of two-over-par 218. Storer completed 54 holes in a tie for 39th place.
 
Beeden and Storer lead Tuesday's birdie brigade
 
Storer had four birdies on the way to his Tuesday 71. Classmate Lewis Beeden matched Storer with a one-under-par 71 Tuesday. Beeden had six birdies on his third-round scorecard, the most for any Bulldog in a round this week.
 
Freshman Brandon Skidmore carded an even-par 72 Tuesday, his low round of the week. Skidmore's third-round ledger included four birdies, four bogeys and 10 pars. Graduate student Jordan Hyland rounded out Wingate's Tuesday team score with a one-over par 73, allowing the Bulldogs to jump one spot to 12th place showing.
 
On the Horizon for the No. 21 Bulldogs
 
Next time out, the Wingate men's golf team travels to Toccoa, Georgia for Anderson University's Currahee Collegiate Invitational. The tournament will be held at Currahee Golf Club on October 21-22. Last year, the 'Dogs earned a top-five finish in the same event, setting the stage for a great spring season and a postseason run to the national championship quarterfinals.
