Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University seniors Titouan Le Grix (Baillargues, France) and Mia Cabrera (Ciudad Juarez, Mexico) are this week's South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, league officials announce from corporate headquarters. Bulldog distance legend Le Grix added a cherry for his ice cream sundae topper, as he was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week as well.

Le Grix and Cabrera were honored for their performances in the one-day University of Indiana at Bloomington Early Bird meet inside the Gladstein Fieldhouse Friday, December 13. Cabrera won the women's mile run, posting a NCAA Division II provisional time of 4:52.99. Competing in her first indoor track meet as a Bulldog, Cabrera ran the second-fastest time in WU history.

Le Grix ran the fastest time in the nation, winning the Indiana Early Bird men's mile run with his mark of 4:00.30 Friday. His weekend effort is a new school standard for the Bulldogs, besting the previous mark of 4:01.06 set by Hamza Chahid last season. Le Grix's time is more than six seconds faster than his previous best effort.

What They Are Saying
Wingate assistant track and field coach Pol Domenech:

"We are so pleased with last weekend's performances in Indiana. The approach was to utilize the cross country fitness and try to get national qualification marks as early as possible. The main target event in Indiana was the mile and Titouan and Mia led our squads."

"The men's race turned out into a great situation with great competition and Titouan was able to take the win and almost break the four-minute barrier. Mia found herself alone early on and had to execute the race without much help. She ended up winning, almost breaking our previous school fastest time. We are excited for both squads to take a break now and come back stronger after the winter break."

Next on the agenda for Wingate indoor track and field

The Bulldogs are taking a competition break for the Christmas holidays. Wingate starts 2025 with a bang, competing in the Gamecock Challenge, hosted by the University of South Carolina February 1 in Columbia.
