Damir Ipkaev and No. 7 Bulldogs earn ’24 SAC swimming title

Wingate University men's swimming newcomer Damir Ipkaev was named the South Atlantic Conference Swimmer of the Meet and the league's Freshman of the Year as the Bulldogs won their second straight SAC championship Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Wingate finished the four-day competition with 1870 points. Catawba was a distant second with 1349 points.
 
Ipkaev's two awards are given to the top point scorer in each category. Wingate senior Jack Wisniewski picked up post-meet hardware as well, earning the SAC Elite 23 award winner for men's swimming. Wisniewski holds a 4.00 GPA with his sport management major. The SAC Elite 23 award goes to the competing student-athlete with the highest GPA.

Event 29
Women's 1650 Freestyle
 
Grace Wilson and Emily Shuttleworth finished second and fifth, respectively, in the 1650 Free timed final. Wilson recorded a time of 17:25.33, while Shuttleworth swam a personal-best 17:38.91.
 
Event 30
Men's 1650 Freestyle
 
Miguel Marcos won his second consecutive SAC 1650 Free with his season-best time of 15:31.41. Damir Ipkaev and Michele Orru' finished fourth (15:46.00) and seventh (16:09.38), respectively.
 
Event 31
Women's 100 Freestyle
 
Amanda Wenhold edged teammate Lucie Andrews by 0.02 seconds to earn the gold medal in the 100 Free. Wenhold swam a time of 50.74, while Andrews finished at 50.76. Nina Azirovic finished fourth (51.00) as five Bulldogs landed in the top eight.
 
Event 32
Men's 100 Freestyle

Mike Topchanalis and Anton Witzell finished third (44.70) and fourth (45.07), respectively, in the 100 Free. Manoel Silva was sixth (45.36), while Alex Smyre was seventh (45.71).
 
Event 33
Women's 200 Backstroke

Marta Beesmans Barquero made it two in a row, as she won the SAC 200 Backstroke championship final for the second straight year. She swam a season-best time of 1:58.55. Vera Karlsson and Nicol Bellardi finished third (2:02.17) and fifth (2:04.49), respectively.

Men's 200 Backstroke
 
Ney Chagas Filho joined teammate Beesmans Barquero as a two-time winner of the SAC 200 Back gold medal with his triumphant time of 1:45.47. Gabriel da Costa and Pablo Cabana del Amo finished fourth (1:50.27) and sixth (1:53.65), respectively.
 
Event 35
Women's 200 Breaststroke
           
Cornelia Almqvist made a podium appearance for the Bulldogs, finishing third with her bronze-medal time of 2:18.59. Nadia Kertynska and Annika Luce finished fifth (2:21.38) and eighth (2:26.15), respectively.
 
Event 36
Men's 200 Breaststroke
 
Wingate swimmers finished 2-3-4 in the SAC 200 Breaststroke final. Mikolaj Dobrindt led the way, finishing second with his time of 2:02.50. Andres Martijena and Jack Wisniewski finished third (2:03.57) and fourth (2:04.27), respectively.
 
Event 37
Women's 400 Freestyle Relay
 
Wingate took the silver medal in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:25.62. Team members include Andrews, Azirovic, Kertynska and Natalia Dwojak.
 
Event 38
Men's 400 Freestyle Relay 
 
The Bulldogs finished a huge night with a second-place showing in the 400 Free Relay, recording a time of 2:59.51. Team members include Topchanalis, Silva, Witzell and Smyre.
