Kansas City, Mo.----The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced their district awards Monday afternoon, and Wingate University head men's basketball coach
Brian Good has been named the Southeast District co-Coach of the Year.
Donell Nixon has earned first team All-Southeast District accolades.
Good adds this honor to SAC Coach of the Year accolades in 2024. He guided the Bulldogs to a 22-9 overall record, going 16-4 in league play to capture a share of the regular season SAC title. It was the first regular season championship for the Bulldogs since the 2006-07 season. The 'Dogs also earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Wingate had three players earn All-SAC accolades this season, including first team selections Nixon and
Josh Massey along with third team honoree
Kendall Taylor.
Nixon adds this accolade to his SAC Player of the Year honor. He also earned first team All-Region recognition from the D2CCA. Nixon is just the third player in program history to earn SAC Player of the Year honors, joining Wingate Hall of Famers
Junior Harrington and
Sean Barnette.
Nixon poured in 18.2 points per game in the 2023-24 season to go along with 5.3 assists and 3.7 rebound per game. He shot 49 percent from the field, 48 percent from three-point range and 89 percent at the free throw line, while leading the Bulldogs with 49 steals. Nixon ranked in the top 10 in the nation in three-point percentage and free throw percentage, while ranking in the top three in the SAC in steals, assists and assist-to-turnover ratio. He scored in double figures in 30 of 31 games, scoring 20 or more points 14 times.
