Brett Adams has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference baseball Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon.
Josh Dotson is the SAC Pitcher of the Week. Adams earns the honor for the second time this season and in his career, while Dotson earns the honor for the first time in his career.
The duo helped lead Wingate to a 4-0 week, which included a SAC sweep over Mars Hill, the third conference sweep of the season for the Bulldogs. The 'Dogs moved to 11-4 in league play, outscoring opponents 46-7 on the week.
Adams hit .538 on the week, going seven-for-13 with a double, triple and two homers, driving in eight runs and scoring seven times. He started his week with two hits including a triple, driving in three runs and scoring twice. He homered in the opener against Mars Hill with two more RBI. Adams homered in game two of the doubleheader against the Lions with two more RBI. He capped his week by going two-for-three with a double, RBI and two runs scored as the 'Dogs finished off the sweep.
Dotson tossed a complete-game shutout against Mars Hill. The right-hander struck out six and walked just one in seven innings of work. Dotson threw 94 pitches on the day, inducing 12 groundouts to go along with his six strikeouts to move to 4-2 on the season.
Adams is hitting .407 on the year with 10 doubles, a triple and seven homers, driving in 38 runs and scoring 32 times. He has a .713 slugging percentage and .484 on-base percentage, ranking in the top five in the league in average, homers, RBI and slugging percentage. Dotson is 4-2 on the season, striking out 30 and walking just five in 40 innings of work. He ranks second on the team in wins and innings pitched.
The Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday, hosting Mount Olive at 4 p.m.
