Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University track and field teams completed a busy weekend with two meets on two coasts Saturday. The Bulldogs concluded the three-day Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California. In addition, 67 Wingate student-athletes competed in the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina Saturday.
At Lenoir-Rhyne, the Wingate track and field teams won nine events. The Bulldog men claimed five gold medals, while the Wingate women collected four first-place finishes. The WU women swept the top three spots on the podium in three events: the high jump, the shot put and the 5000 meters.
Sophomore
Dounia Routbi set new Wingate school standards in the Southside Power & Fitness Invite women's 100 meter hurdles (14.36) and women's 400 meter hurdles (1:02.75). Routbi finished second in both events at Lenoir-Rhyne's Irwin Belk Track, site of the 2024 South Atlantic Conference outdoor championship meet May 1-2.
Senior
Elijah Compton continued his solid outdoor season with a gold medal and a silver medal in the Southside Power & Fitness Invite men's 110 meter hurdles and men's 400 meter hurdles, respectively. In the 110 hurdles, Compton's triumphant time of 14.32 lowers his previous personal-best time. He ran a 53.12 in the 400 hurdles, also a personal-best.

Wingate University
