Wingate’s de Castro Navarro and Lawless earn SAC Athlete of the Week honors

Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University outdoor track and field throwers Mateo de Castro Navarro (Valladolid, Spain) and Amber Lawless (Perth, Western Australia) are this week's South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, league officials announce from corporate headquarters. Lawless is honored for the first time this season, while de Castro Navarro receives this recognition for the third time this year.
 
Mateo de Castro Navarro
 
A junior, Mateo de Castro Navarro finished fourth in the highly-competitive, NCAA Division I-heavy Wake Forest Invitational shot put last week, thanks to his mark of 16.27 meters. He has the top mark in the SAC this season (16.66 meters, VertKlasse Meeting).
 
Amber Lawless
 
A senior, Amber Lawless had a big week at the Wake Forest Invitational. In her signature shot put event, she finished sixth (14.57 meters). She competed in the discus throw as well, posting a mark of 43.14 meters. Lawless has the No. 1 shot put mark in the SAC this season (14.72 meters, Duke Invite) and the No. 1 discus throw as well (46.81 meters, VertKlasse Meeting).

Up Next for the Wingate outdoor track and field teams
 
The Bulldogs will compete in the Charlotte Invitational Friday and Saturday, April 24-25. The Charlotte 49ers are hosting this event at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center on the UNCC campus. Presently, the Wingate men are No. 6 in the USTFCCCA outdoor power rankings. The Bulldog women are No. 23 in the USTFCCCA outdoor power rankings.
