McCormick, S.C.----The No. 22 Wingate University men's golf finished ninth in the Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Lander University on the Monticello Golf Club layout Monday and Tuesday. The Bulldogs shot a 295 Tuesday to finish with a 54-hole total of 872.

Freshman Cole Rouse led the Bulldogs in his first event as a Wingate newcomer. A late switch from an individual to a top-five player, Rouse completed the Bearcat Invite at one-under-par 215 for the tournament, which included a highlight of five-under-par 67 in the second round.

In round three, graduate student Jordan Hyland and freshman Brandon Skidmore had the low Bulldog scores with identical one-over-par 73s. Skidmore had five birdies, while Hyland had three birdies. Rouse carded a two-over-par 74, while junior Fynn Loewe had his lowest round of the tournament with a three-over-par 75.

Wingate's ninth-place score of 872 outdistanced South Atlantic Conference foes Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne. The Bulldogs were 10 shots behind Lander and Georgia Southwestern, who tied for seventh place at 862. North Georgia continued its stellar play, finishing at 28-under-par to take the team title.

Bulldog junior Alfie Storer played as an individual this week, pulling out of the starting line-up due to illness before the first round. After a tough opening 18 holes, Storer bounced back with scores of five-under-par 67 Monday evening and two-over-par 74 Tuesday. Only five strokes separated Wngate's Hyland, Storer, Skidmore and junior Lewis Beeden.

The Wingate men will have an off week before three consecutive tournaments stretching from September 23 to October 8. The tournaments and elite competition come thick and fast, starting with Flagler College's Jay Jennison Cup at the Palencia Golf and Country Club in St. Augustine, Florida September 23-24.
