Nationally-ranked Wingate teams have much success in Boston and Columbia Friday

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University indoor track and field teams collected eight gold medals, five silver medals and six bronze medals in the Carolina Challenge in Columbia, South Carolina Friday. The University of South Carolina Gamecocks hosted this event inside the Carolina Indoor T&F Complex.
 
In addition, Wingate distance specialists Grace Burrell and Mia Cabrera posted personal-best times in the women's 3000 meters and the women's mile run, respectively, in the John Thomas Terrier Classic at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center Friday. Burrell and Cabrera will have seven men's teammates compete in the John Thomas Terrier Classic Saturday.
 
Carolina Challenge No. 4 Wingate men's notes
 
- Aleix Lago and Jakob Rettschlag finished 1-2 in the 800 meters
- Lago ran a season-best time of 1:52.88; Rettschlag's time was 1:52.88
- Mikah Paiz won the mile run with a personal-best time of 4:09.40
- Alejandro Berrio finished third in the same race at 4:09.94
- Thomas Bentley won the 3000 meters with a personal-best time of 8:28.08
- Oskar Enseling finished third in the same race at 8:35.04
- Emanuele Ferrari won the 5000 meters with a personal-best time of 14:44.45
- Mateo De Castro Navarro won the shot put with a season-best mark of 15.50 meters
- Elijah Compton earned a bronze medal in the 60-meter hurdles (8.29)
- Jaylen Nelson finished third in the high jump (season-best 1.97 meters)
- Dequan Thompson finished third in the triple jump (14.10 meters)

- Riya Keshaw won the 5000 meters with her personal-best time of 17:53.07
- Assiya Elhafyan and Ally Holmberg tied for first place in the high jump
- Both Holmberg and Elhafyan cleared 1.63 meters on Friday
- Diaman Lee finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with her time of 8.89
- Baia Touza earned a silver medal in the 800 meters with her time of 2:16.55
- Laila Abouzaid finished second in the 3000 meters with a 10:06.93 PR
- Amber Lawless collected a silver in the shot put with her mark of 13.10 meters
- Enora Toupin finished third in the mile run with her personal-best time of 5:09.42

- Mia Cabrera recorded a personal-best time of 4:47.46 in the mile run
- Cabrera shaved five seconds from her previous personal-best time Friday
- Grace Burrell posted a personal-best time of 9:47.46 in the 3000 meters
