Maddie Hoffman named SAC Player of the Week for third time this season

Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University senior libero Maddie Hoffman has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Hoffman earns the honor for the third time this season and sixth time in her career.

Hoffman had an impressive week, leading the Bulldogs to three more SAC victories. Wingate started the week with a big 3-1 victory at Lenoir-Rhyne, while wrapping the week up with home sweeps over UVA Wise and Emory & Henry. The 'Dogs have won 15 straight, sitting at 16-1 overall and 9-0 in league play.

Hoffman piled up 54 digs in her 10 sets of action, adding 11 assists and four aces. She averaged 5.40 digs per set on the week. She started her week with 20 digs and two assists at LR, as the 'Dogs held the Bears to a .114 hitting percentage. Hoffman piled up 21 digs in the UVA Wise sweep, adding six assists and an ace as the 'Dogs held the Cavs to a .092 hitting percentage. She capped her week with 13 digs, three assists and three aces in the E&H sweep, holding the Wasps to a .011 hitting percentage.

Hoffman leads the SAC and ranks 25th in the nation with 5.13 digs per set, while ranking third in the conference with 24 aces and fourth with 0.44 aces per set. She is also the SAC leader with her 282 total digs. An All-SAC and All-Region honoree last year, Hoffman has helped the 'Dogs lead the SAC and rank 10th in the nation in opponents' hitting percentage.

Wingate is back in action Tuesday, hosting Catawba at 7 p.m.
