No. 9 Wingate finishes fourth in 17-team Copperhead Championship

Palm Harbor, Fla.----The No. 9 Wingate University men's golf team finished fourth in the Copperhead Championship Tuesday. The Bulldogs shot a seven-over-par 291 Tuesday for a 54-hole total of nine-over-par 861. The University of West Florida hosted this event at the Innisbrook Golf Resort, Copperhead Course.
 
Tournament host and NCAA No. 1 West Florida won the Copperhead Championship with its 11-under-par 841. The Argonauts were the only team to finish the event under par. UWF junior Per Ekelund earned medalist honors, thanks to his five-under-par 208. He shot a five-under-par 66 Tuesday.
 
Senior All-American Beeden leads Bulldogs
 
Senior Lewis Beeden tied for seventh place to lead the Bulldogs. Beeden completed 54 holes at even-par 213. He had an even-par 71 Tuesday. Senior Alfie Storer tied for 11th place at two-over-par 215. He posted a five-over-par 76 Tuesday.
 
Only four strokes separated Wingate's top four finishers. Sophomore All-American Brandon Skidmore completed his 54-hole tour at three-over-par 216. He had a one-under-par 70 Tuesday. Senior Fynn Loewe finished three rounds at four-over-par 217. He had a three-over-par 74 Tuesday.
 
Up next for the No. 9 Wingate Bulldogs
 
Wingate concludes its fall schedule Monday and Tuesday October 20-21, venturing to South Carolina to play in Lander University's Patriot Fall Classic. The LU Bearcats are hosting this event at the Patriot Golf Course at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, South Carolina.
