GRAND SLAM! No. 1 Wingate wins fourth consecutive East Regional title

Troutman, N.C.----The No. 1 Wingate University women's triathlon team won its fourth consecutive USA Triathlon Collegiate East Regional qualifier at Lake Norman State Park Saturday. The Bulldogs were led by East Region Freshman of the Year Shelby Lajeunesse, who finished second overall.
 
Wingate compiled 564 points to outdistance South Atlantic Conference rival Lenoir-Rhyne by 24 points. Emmanuel and Newberry finished third and fourth, respectively. Roberts Wesleyan and King rounded out the six-team NCAA Division II leader board.
 
'Dogs claim East Regional qualifier with seven athletes in the top 11
 
Lajeunesse finished the swim, bike and run with a time of 1:05:06. Rebecca Nolan was third with her time of 1:05:20. Vanda Křížková and Irmak Sereflioğlu claimed fifth and sixth place, respectively. Křížková posted a time of 1:05:28, while Sereflioğlu checked in a 1:05:45. The top four Wingate student-triathletes finished within 39 seconds of each other.
 
Pia Diemer finished eighth with her time of 1:06:22, while Paula Auschill was ninth with her time of 1:06:31. Beate Bula rounded out Wingate's top seven student-triathletes, finishing 11th with her time of 1:07:11.
 
East Regional notes
 
- Lenoir-Rhyne's Zoila Sicilia won the D2 individual title (1:03:58)
- Queens University of Charlotte won the D1 team title
- The Royals edged the Arizona State Sun Devils 622-617
- Trine University from Angola, Indiana won the D3 team crown
- The Trine Thunder outdistanced Warren Wilson 327-188
 
Next on the horizon for Wingate women's triathlon
 
The 2025 Collegiate National Championships are slated for Saturday, Nov. 8 at Tempe Town Lake in Tempe, Arizona. Wingate is the defending national champion. The fifth-year Bulldog program have had four podium placements in four tries. Wingate finished second, third and second in its previous national championship appearances.
