Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University women's triathlon team competed in the Clermont Draft Legal Triathlon competition February 28-March 1 in Clermont, Florida. Wingate head coach Nick Radkewich utilizes this event to get a sneak peek at his fall championship season roster.

The team competed in the Elite Development Sprint Race on Saturday, February 28. On Sunday, March 1, the Bulldogs returned to conquer the NCAA SuperSprint. Wingate finished first in the NCAA SuperSprint event, outdistancing NCAA Division I Navy in second place. Bulldog sophomore Paula Auschill had a big weekend with two podium finishes.

What They Are Saying
Wingate women's triathlon head coach Nick Radkewich

"The spring race is a great chance for the team returning in the fall to try new things and become familiar with racing as a team. It was amazing to see Paula Auschill show great improvement since the fall, earning two podium finishes and fighting to the finish line for the NCAA SuperSprint title."

"We changed up the race selection this year, with the entire team racing the Elite Development Sprint race on Saturday. The experience they gained from this event will pay dividends in the fall. Then, coming back the next day to race again in the NCAA SuperSprint, the team showed that base training over the past few weeks has paid off, increasing their endurance and strength."

"With the race over, our student-triathletes will return from our March 2-6 Spring Break to start the process again in preparation for their summer schedule and the Fall Championship season."

Looking back at the 2025 national championships

By a slim four-point margin, the Wingate women's triathlon team finished second in the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championships at Tempe Town Lake Saturday, November 8 in Tempe, Arizona. South Atlantic Conference rival Lenoir-Rhyne edged '24 Division II national champion Wingate 762-758 to claim its second title.

The five-year-old Wingate program is no stranger to podium finishes, as the 'Dogs finished second, third, second and first in their previous national championship appearances. Wingate newcomer Shelby Lajeunesse completed her storybook first season by earning Division II Freshman of the Year honors, finishing third overall with her time of 1:05:28. Seven of seven Bulldogs were named either first or second team All-American.
