Five Bulldogs earn All-SAC accolades

Rock Hill, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs had five players earn all-conference honors Thursday afternoon, when league officials announced the South Atlantic Conference women's soccer regular season award winners. Ellie Polk is a second team All-SAC selection, with Katie Ensalaco, Angela Maino, Gabby Agelis and Audur Halldorsdottir earning third team accolades.

Polk is an All-Sac honoree for the first time in her career. She is tied for the team lead with six goals, adding five assists to tie for the team lead with 17 points. Polk is ninth in the SAC in points, 11th in goals and 12th in assists. She has a pair of game-winning goals on the year. Polk scored in back-to-back wins against Barton and Lander, while scoring a pair of goals against Tusculum. She notched a goal and an assist against LMU, while handing out assists in back-to-back games against Catawba and Anderson. Polk also scored a goal against Emory & Henry.

Ensalaco earns league honors for the third straight year. She has started all 17 games, playing over 1400 minutes for the Bulldogs. The midfielder has registered three goals and five assists on the year, while also playing a key role in the WU defensive efforts. She scored in the season opener at North Georgia, while notching assists in the next two contests against Belmont Abbey and Barton. She scored again in the Anderson win, following with assists against UNCP and Newbrry. Ensalaco had a goal and an assist to help the 'Dogs advance past Lenoir-Rhyne in the SAC Tourney quarterfinals, while also converting a successful PK.

Maino is an All-SAC selection for the first time in her career. She is tied for the team lead with 17 points, leading the Bulldogs with seven assists while adding five goals. Maino ranks second in the SAC in assists, while ranking ninth in points. She had a goal and an assist at Norgh Georgia, while also scoring against Belmont Abbey. Maino handed out two assists against Lander, while also notching an assist at Anderson. She scored a pair of goals against UNCP, while registering a goal and an assist against Emory & Henry. Maino had an assist in the SAC Tournament quarterfinal contest against Lenoir-Rhyne.

Agelis earns all-conference accolades for the first time in her career. She has started all 17 games for the Bulldogs, playing over 1450 minutes for the Bulldogs. She has been a key factor on the WU defense that has posted a 1.41 goals-against average. Agelis has also compiled two goals and three assists on the year. She had an assist in the season opener at North Georgia, while also notching an assist against Barton. Agelis scored goals in wins over Anderson and Newberry, while adding an assist against Emory & Henry.

Halldorsdottir is an All-SAC honoree for the second straight year. She has started all 17 contests this season, playing over 1000 minutes for the Bulldogs. Halldorsdottir has five goals and two assists on the year. She scored in three straight SAC contests, finding the back of the net against Mars Hill, LMU and Catawba, while adding an assist against the Railsplitters. Halldorsdottir piled up two goals and an assist in the Emory & Henry contest.

Wingate is back in action Friday, taking on Anderson in the SAC Tournament semifinals at 2 p.m. at the Matthews SportsPlex. The winner advances to Sunday's SAC title game in Matthews.
