Vick leads Bulldogs to 85-70 victory over Yellow Jackets

Hickory, N.C.----Wingate University freshman Isaiah Vick poured in 30 points Saturday afternoon, leading the Bulldogs to an 85-70 victory over West Virginia State in NCAA Division II men's basketball action. Wingate moves to 3-1 on the year, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-2 overall.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 42 percent from the field, going nine-for-32 from three-point range (28 percent)
- WVSU shot 40 percent from the field, going five-for-17 from deep (29 percent)
- The 'Dogs held a 46-39 rebounding advantage and 15-9 edge in second-chance points
- The Bulldogs scored 18 points off 14 West Virginia State turnovers

KEY BULLDOGS

- Vick had 30 points, eight rebounds and two blocks, going 12-for-16 from the field and four-for-five from deep
- Jordan Miller added 12 points, eight boards, eight assists and four steals
- Kendall Campbell added 10 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals
- Derek Bradley contributed 10 points, six boards, three assists and two steals

FIRST HALF

- Buckets from Campbell and Vick, followed by a Bradley triple gave WU an early 7-0 lead
- A Vick triple and Miller layup stretched the lead to 10 with 15 minutes left
- A Trey Harris dunk made it 17-9, but the 'Dogs answered with a  10-0 run to go on top by 18
- Vick knocked down two triples in the spurt that made it 27-9 with 11 minutes to go
- A Jaden Lingo triple put the 'Dogs on top by 19 at the midway point
- A Campbell three-point play and Bradley layup extended the lead to 20 at 35-15
- A Darius Carr layup gave the Bulldogs a 23-point lead at the 6:01 mark
- A Vick jumper and Carr free throw made it 43-19 with 2:29 remaining
- The 'Dogs took a 45-24 lead into halftime

SECOND HALF

- A Vick jumper and Miller triple gave Wingate a 50-24 lead a minute into the second half
- A Harris layup with 14 minutes left cut the lead to 13 at 54-41
- A Miller layup, along with free throws from Campbell and Godley pushed the WU lead back to 19
- Miller and Lingo buried back-to-back triples to make it 68-48 at the 9:41 mark
- An Ishmael Smith layup with 1:48 to go trimmed the lead to 11
- Two Vick free throws and a Godley layup put the 'Dogs on top 83-69 with 42 seconds left
- A Jayden Street dunk with 17 seconds left finished off the victory
