Skidmore tied for second, Wingate third overnight at LMU Spring Kickoff

The No. 23 Bulldog men's golf team had a wonderful day at St. John's Golf and Country Club Monday, finishing the 36-hole day at eight-under-par 568. The Navy Blue and Vegas Gold-clad linksters are currently occupying third place. Host and South Atlantic Conference neighbor Lincoln Memorial enter the third round in first place at 14-under-par 562.
 
Freshman Brandon Skidmore leads his team at a blistering seven-under-par 137, good enough to have him in a tie for second place and in contention for the individual title in Tuesday's final round only two shots back.
 
First round quick hits
 
- WU was tied for first after round one at one-under-par 287 with LMU and Columbus State
- Skidmore had the low Bulldog round at two-under-par 70 with four birdies
- Grad student Jordan Hyland had a one-under-par 71 with 15 pars on a very clean scorecard
- Wingate's four counting scores featured 12 combined birdies
- The team's top four played the back nine in a combined eight-under par
- Juniors Lewis Beeden and Fynn Loewe had 72 and 74, respectively, to complete the team score
 
Second round quick hits
 
- Wingate's seven-under-par 281 is the best team score of the 2024-25 season
- The Bulldogs finished the day in third at eight-under par 568
- Skidmore shot bogey-free golf and posted his WU career low score of five-under-par 67
- He carded five birdies and 13 pars in a perfectly clean scorecard
- Beeden closed out with a three-under-par 69, including two birdies
- He added an eagle on the par-five, 558-yard 12th hole
- Individually, Skidmore was tied for second, while Beeden was tied for sixth overnight
- Junior Alfie Storer bounced back in round two with a one-under-par 71with four birdies
- Hyland rounded out the team score with his two-over-par 74
