Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.----For the second year in a row, the Wingate University men's golf team has qualified for the NCAA national quarterfinals. The Bulldogs will face the Missouri S&T Miners Thursday morning at the PGA National Resort. Wingate's third-round score of three-over-par 291 locked up a sixth-place stroke play finish and a spot among the final eight teams.
Wingate's 54-hole total is five-over-par 869. Colorado Christian had a big rally, as the Cougars shot an eight-under-par 280 Wednesday to edge second-place West Florida by two shots (856-858). Second-round leader Missouri S&T finished third at one-under-par 863.
Bulldog freshman
Brandon Skidmore and junior
Lewis Beeden finished tied for second and tied for sixth, respectively. Skidmore had a four-under-par 68 Wednesday to finish 54 holes at five-under-par 211. Beeden had a one-over-par 73 to complete his three rounds at four-under-par 212. North Georgia's
Hunter Smith was the individual medalist at six-under-par 210. Smith posted an even-par 72 Wednesday to edge Skidmore and three others by one shot.
NCAA Championships Round 3 quick hits
- WU's third-round score of 291 moved the 'Dogs from fifth to sixth
- The team was six shots inside the cutline (Okla. Christian, 11-over-par 875)
- Thirteen strokes separated WU from stroke-play winners CCU (856-869)
- Skidmore's four-under-par 68 Wednesday included a hat trick of birdies
- He birdied two-of-three Bear Trap holes and then the par-five 18th hole
- With four par five birdies in four tries, Skidmore jumped from 11th to second
- His NCAA postseason: tie for first at regionals, tie for second at nationals
- Beeden had a share of the individual lead with six holes to play
- He settled for a one-over-par 73 and a tie for sixth-place

- The '24 Academic All-America had four birdies and an eagle in his third round

Cole Rouse rounded out the team score with his three-over-par 75
- Rouse carded three birdies Wednesday including two in his first six holes
Looking ahead to Thursday's match play
Wingate head coach
JD Lamm is the only NCAA Division II coach who can say he led both his women's and men's teams to the national quarterfinals in 2025. On Thursday, Lamm and his Bulldogs will face a match-play format which includes five one-on-one contests. The better stroke play score earns each individual one point. The first team to earn three points wins and advances.
