Wingate’s Skidmore earns NCAA Division II’s Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award

Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.----Wingate University newcomer Brandon Skidmore has been named the recipient of the 2025 NCAA Division II Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award presented by StrackaLine. The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) made the announcement following the conclusion of the NCAA Division II National Championships stroke play tournament Wednesday night.
 
Ranked 25th via Scoreboard powered by Clippd, Skidmore recorded seven top-five and five top-three finishes this season. The Gloucester, England native was a runner-up at the NCAA Championship, guiding the Bulldogs to the NCAA Championship Medal Match Play.
 
Skidmore lost in a playoff at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional and was the runner-up at Lincoln Memorial's Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate. Skidmore was named South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year, first team All-SAC and PING All-Southeast Region.
 
Reggie Fear of Eckerd, Tobey Kim of Arkansas Tech, Bruno Marques of Nova Southeastern and Erik Rengardt of South Carolina Beaufort joined Skidmore on the All-Freshman team.

Established in 1958, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) is the professional organization of men's collegiate golf coaches. The GCAA's mission is to support its member coaches from six divisions, including the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA, by creating educational opportunities, providing resources and promoting its members with the purpose of enhancing their overall performance as coaches, mentors and teachers.
