Wingate trio earn WGCA All-American Scholar honors

Coral Springs, Fla.----Three Wingate University women's golf student-athletes have earned Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar honors following a historic 2024-25 season. Leading the way is May graduate Jess Brown. She is joined on the honor list by rising senior Thalia Perez-Vieco and rising sophomore Amely Bochaton.
 
Brown receives the WGCA academic recognition for the third year in a row, while Bochaton and Perez-Vieco are first-time honorees. The trio helped No. 4 Wingate win the '25 South Atlantic Conference tournament on its way to a first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II national quarterfinals. The Bulldogs won seven tournaments during the 2024-25 season.
 
Brown graduated with an exercise science degree and a 3.590 GPA. Bochaton has a 3.714 GPA with her sport and recreation management major, while Perez-Vieco sports a 3.540 GPA with her psychology major. As a team, Wingate had a 3.618 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.

- Shot a season-best 219 to tie for fifth at LMU's Spring Kickoff
- Started junior year with a tie for 12th at Fall Kickoff
- Followed with a tie for 10th at Lee's event
- Four top-15 showings this year
 
The Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar program
 
A total of 1,533 women's collegiate golfers received this distinction this year. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of intercollegiate athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50. In addition, the student-athlete must have played in 50 percent of her school's regularly-scheduled competitive rounds through the team's conference championships. Finally, the student-athlete must maintain her amateur status and remain on her team's roster through the conclusion of the season.
 
The Women's Golf Coaches Association
 
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 750 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
