Catawba holds off Wingate 81-69 Wednesday night

Wingate, N.C.----The Catawba College Indians built a 19-point lead Wednesday night, then held off a Wingate rally that saw the lead cut to six, prevailing 81-69 over the Bulldogs in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. The Indians improve to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 7-5 overall and 2-5 in league play.

- Wingate shot 39 percent from the field, connecting on seven-of-24 from deep (29 percent)

- An Ibra Athie layup with 12 minutes left gave Catawba a 16-9 lead
- Jashaun Hawkin's three pushed the lead to 10 at the midway point
- A Jacori Owens layup pulled Wingate back within six, but a Zion McDuffie layup made it 28-18
- A Carson Daniel three at the 2:32 mark capped a 16-4 run that gave the Indians a 40-22 lead
- Pack drilled a three at the buzzer to make it 44-29 at halftime

SECOND HALF

- An Athrie layup at the 14:35 mark gave Catawba a 55-36 advantage
- WU scored the next eight, getting two Pack triples to trim the lead to 11
- Solomon Tucker's dunk made it 58-46 at the 11:50 mark
- A Campbell dunk, along with a jumper and two free throws from Miller cut it to six with 10:37 left
- Free throws from Daniel and Athie pushed the lead back to 12 at 66-54
- Vick's dunk cut the lead to 10 at the 7:27 mark
- Athie's jumper two minutes later gave the Indians a 72-58 advantage
- Pack knocked down a three with 1:36 to go, cutting the lead to nine
- The Bulldogs would get no closer the rest of the way
