No. 6 Wingate finishes third at the Oldfield Classic Tuesday

Okatie, S.C.----The No. 6 Wingate University men's golf team finished third at the Oldfield Classic Tuesday. The Bulldogs finished 54 holes at eight-over-par 872. No. 8 Georgia Southwestern won the event at five-over-par 869. The University of South Carolina Beaufort hosted this tournament at the Oldfield Club.
 
Wingate shoots a six-under-par 282 in the third and final round
 
Wingate completed the second round Tuesday morning, posting an eight-over-par 296. In the third and final round, the Bulldogs shot their best Oldfield Classic round with a six-under-par 282. Senior Alfie Storer had a three-under-par 69 in the third round, while four teammates each posted a one-under-par 71.
 
Beeden ties for sixth place; Bulldogs have five golfers in the top 30
 
Senior Lewis Beeden led Wingate this week, posting a one-under-par 215. He had back-to-back 71s after a first-round 73 to tie for sixth place. Freshman Mattia D'Errico tied for eighth place at one-over-par 217. He also had back-to-back 71s after a first-round 75.
 
Sophomore Brandon Skidmore tied for 12th place at 218, while Storer tied for 25th position at 225. Sophomore Cole Rouse tied for 30th place at 226, one shot behind Storer. Both Skidmore and Rouse had matching 71s in the third and final round.
 
The eagles have landed (four times)
 
Wingate had four eagles during the Oldfield Classic, including three by Storer and one by Rouse. Storer eagled hole No. 8 in the first round. He followed this feat with eagles on hole No. 11 and No. 18 in the third round. The 18th hole at the Oldfield Club measures a long 563 yards. Rouse eagled hole No. 11 in the third round as well.

The Bulldogs will return to action for the 26th annual Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate March 16-17 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Monroe. Wingate will play 36 holes on its home course Monday, March 16, followed by 18 holes Tuesday, March 17 to complete the 54-hole event.
