Sebbata and Sandberg lead Wingate on night two of SAC championship meet

Kingsport, Tenn.----Wingate University student-athletes Yassine Sebbata and Mathilda Sandberg led the Bulldogs on night two of the South Atlantic Conference men's and women's swimming championship meet at the Kingsport Aquatic Center Thursday night. The Wingate men lead the event at the midway point, while the Bulldog women occupy second place.
 
Sandberg contributed to two victories, giving her three gold medals in two nights. Individually, she won the 100 Butterfly with her time of 54.65. Sandberg and three teammates won the 400 Medley Relay with a new SAC meet record time of 3:41.84.
 
Sebbata won his second individual race in as many nights, touching first in the 200 Freestyle with a new SAC meet record time of 1:35.12. The previous SAC standard belonged to Wingate superstar Marcel Snitko ('23), who posted a triumphant time of 1:35.69 at the '23 SAC championship event.
 
The Wingate men have 883 points. Catawba and Carson-Newman are second (720 points) and third (647 points), respectively. The Catawba Indians lead the women's field with 862 points. Wingate is second with 822.5 points, while Carson-Newman is a distant third with 542.5 markers. The 'Dogs return to the pool for day three preliminaries Friday morning at 10 a.m. Finals on Friday evening will start at 5 p.m.

Event 9
Women's 100 Butterfly
 
Sandberg started the best night of her intercollegiate career (so far) with her victory in the 100 Fly. Teammate Valentina Zapata Ceballos finished fourth with her time of 55.77.
 
Event 10
Men's 100 Butterfly
 
Vladimir Krstulovic led the 'Dogs, claiming the bronze medal with his time of 47.93. Sebbata and team captain Mike Topchanalis finished sixth (48.46) and seventh (48.47), respectively.

Event 11
Women's 400 Individual Medley

Giulianna Garcia and Nisa Gul Serdar were third and fourth, respectively, pacing five Bulldogs in the championship final. Garcia posted a time of 4:30.16, while Serdar was one second back at 4:31.36.
 
Event 12
Men's 400 Individual Medley
 
Andreas Carrascal and Artur Vilela de Queiroz both found spots on the podium, finishing second (3:57.62) and third (3:58.62), respectively. The Bulldogs had four student-athletes in the championship final.
 
Event 13
Women's 200 Freestyle
 
Team captain Nina Azirovic topped the WU charts, taking fourth place in 1:51.57. Teammate Elizabete Paula Ozola finished sixth (1:52.72).
 
Event 14
Men's 200 Freestyle
 
Sebbata was one of four Bulldogs in a star-studded final. Krstulovic continued his busy night with a fourth-place showing. He posted a time of 1:38.09.
 
Event 15
Women's 400 Medley Relay
 
Sandberg and Azirovic swam the third and fourth leg, respectively, to lead the record-setting WU charge. They were joined by Vera Karlsson and Natalia Dwojak.
 
Event 16
Men's 400 Medley Relay
 
Wingate finished third with a bronze-medal time of 3:16.21. Team captain Ney Chagas Filho was joined by Vilela de Queiroz, Krstulovic and Anton Witzell.
