Freestyle relay and 1650 successes highlight Wingate’s final night at NCAAs

Evansville, Ind.----Wingate University sophomore Fernando Dehaudt swam three distance races at the 2026 NCAA Division II swimming and diving national championships, winning three first team All-American trophies. On Saturday, he finished sixth in the grueling 1650 Freestyle with his time of 15:14.66 inside the Deaconess Aquatic Center.
 
On the final team charts, the Bulldog men finished seventh out of 31 teams. The Wingate women were 11th out of 35 squads. Nova Southeastern won the women's meet, while Tampa prevailed over Drury to take the men's crown.
 
Bulldog 400 Freestyle Relay squads earn first team AA honors
 
Both Wingate 400 Freestyle Relay quartets earned first team All-American honors in the meet's final races. On the men's side, the Bulldogs finished sixth by tying their school record time of 2:53.02. The Wingate women took eighth place with their time of 3:21.92.
 
The Wingate men's 400 Freestyle Relay crew included sophomores Yassine Sebbata and Vladimir Krstulovic and juniors Mike Topchanalis and Anton Witzell. The Bulldog women's 400 Freestyle Relay squad included seniors Nina Azirovic and Natalia Dwojak, freshman Mathilda Sandberg and sophomore Elizabete Paula Ozola. Topchanalis, Azirovic and Dwojak served as team captains this year.
 
Newcomers make big statements Saturday
 
In the aforementioned men's 1650 Freestyle race, Bulldog freshman Emil Heigre earned his inaugural first team All-American trophy with his seventh-place time of 15:16.34. It was a good night for Wingate newcomers, as freshman Nicolo Cariboni finished eighth in the men's 200 Breaststroke, thanks to his time of 1:57.97. Cariboni snags his inaugural first team All-American award as well.

- Sophomore Livia Kingsland finished 10th in the women's 1650 Freestyle (17:01.03)
- Senior Nicol Bellardi finished 15th in the women's 200 Backstroke (2:01.78)
- Sophomore Yassine Sebbata claimed 11th place in the 100 Freestyle (43.71)
- Sophomore Vladimir Krstulovic finished 16th in the 100 Freestyle (43.91)
- Sophomore Luca Ichim took 12th place in the 200 Backstroke (1:45.16)
- Senior team captain Ney Chagas Filho finished 16th in the 200 Back (1:48.26)
