Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University junior student-athlete
Mateo de Castro Navarro (Valladolid, Spain) is this week's South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, league officials announce from corporate headquarters. He receives this distinction for the second consecutive week and the second time in his career.
Last weekend, de Castro Navarro put together a huge two days at High Point's VertKlasse Meeting with three personal-best marks. In the shot put, he finished seventh with a 16.66-meter effort. His NCAA Division II provisional shot put mark is No. 1 in the SAC, No. 2 in the Southeast Region and No. 23 in D2. The '25 SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's track and field, de Castro Navarro also posted personal-best marks in the discus throw (45.43 meters) and the hammer throw (46.68 meters).
Up Next for the Wingate outdoor track and field teams
The Bulldogs will compete in the Duke Invitational Friday and Saturday, April 10-11. Duke University hosts this event at the Morris Williams Track and Field Stadium. Presently, the Wingate women are No. 16 in the USTFCCCA outdoor power rankings. The Bulldog men are No. 24 in the USTFCCCA outdoor power rankings.
