Academic All-America Teams

Tanner McCammon has been named a third team Academic All-America® honoree as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). McCammon collects Academic All-America® accolades for the first time in his career.
McCammon is the eighth player in Wingate baseball history to receive Academic All-America recognition. He is the first baseball player since
Cam Harris earned third team honors in 2024, while current professional pitcher
Corey Avant was a third team selection in 2022 and 2023.
McCammon gives Wingate 166 all-time Academic All-America® honorees, with 157 this millennium. The Bulldogs lead all North Carolina colleges and universities in Academic All-America® selections in the 2000's, while leading the SAC and ranking second in Division II.
McCammon has compiled a 3.66 GPA, majoring in Finance. The Appalachian State transfer has been named to the Dean's List and President's List during his collegiate career. The first team All-SAC honoree in 2026 collected All-Region accolades from the NCBWA, D2CCA and ABCA. McCammon earned third team All-American honors from D2Basball.
McCammon had a huge first year on the field for the SAC Tourney champion Bulldogs. He hit .382 on the season, piling up 23 doubles, 21 homers, 84 RBI and 79 runs scored. McCammon compiled a .739 slugging percentage, .468 on-base percentage and 1.207 OPS.
McCammon led the SAC in RBI, ranking second in homers and third in doubles. He was also second in the conference in total bases and third in slugging percentage. McCammon ranked sixth in the nation in RBI, eighth in doubles, ninth in total bases and 11th in homers, ranking 12th in runs.
College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® program
The College Sports Communicators (CSC) began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, have recognized thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.
Currently, the CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's and women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the at-large program.
The Academic All-America® program is comprised of divisional teams for NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Added for the 2018-19 academic year was a separate at-large program for two-year schools and Canadian institutions. Members at two-year schools, Canadian institutions and any other institution not affiliated with the NCAA or NAIA nominate their student-athletes in all sports during the spring nomination period.
