Chris Manwaring (’06, Vancouver, B.C.) is currently playing for England in the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. The tournament is being held at the Slavia Eden Ice Hockey Arena in Prague. Through his first two games, he has scored seven goals and has dished out three assists.
Manwaring scored four goals against Australia in a 20-8 victory; he then followed with three goals and three assists against Slovakia in a 24-7 triumph. England currently sits in second place (two points) with a combined score of 44-15.
Manwaring and his English teammates will play again on Tuesday, May 24 against group rivals Canada. The Canadian lacrosse team is currently leading their group by a score of 53-3. Canada was able to beat Slovakia 27-1 and Australia 26-2.
While attending Wingate, Manwaring was a strong offensive force and a tough defender. He gave the Bulldogs strong leadership throughout his career. Manwaring managed to enter the record books five times from his 2006 season.
The Hugh McRoberts Secondary School graduate currently holds four spots in individual season records – he is third in the goals category with 39, ninth in shots with 87, second in goals per game with 2.79, seventh in shots per game with 6.21. He also has one spot in the individual game records category from scoring seven goals in one game against Pfeiffer on the March 22, 2006.
In 2006, Manwaring and his Bulldog teammates compiled a 10-5 overall record with a 7-2 ledger in the Deep South Conference. The Bulldogs shared the 2006 DSC regular season championship with four schools, marking the first DSC regular season title in Wingate’s lacrosse history. Manwaring also spent two seasons (2007, 2008) as a graduate assistant coach for the Bulldogs.
