Mount Olive, N.C.----
Wingate University sophomore catcher Brittany Barrineau (Monroe, N.C.) blasted three home runs as the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader over the Trojans of Mount Olive College in NCAA Division II softball action Thursday afternoon. Wingate won by scores of 5-0 and 10-5 to improve to 13-1 overall. The Bulldogs have now won 11 straight games. Mount Olive falls to 2-10 on the year.

Game One: Wingate 5, Mount Olive 0

Junior designated player Emily Chavis (Berkeley Lake, Ga.) had a homer and three RBI to lead the Wingate offense. Senior shortstop Debra Grijalva (San Jose, Calif.) was two-for-three with an RBI and a run scored while Barrineau added a homer.

Barrineau once again got it started early, hitting a two-run shot in the first inning. Chavis and senior infielder Leyila Myers (Marietta, Ga.) scored a pair of runs on a Mount Olive error. Freshman outfielder Stephanie Simmons (Hickory, N.C.) added an RBI single to give Wingate a 5-0 lead after the first inning.

The Bulldogs added another run in the third on a solo homer from Grijalva. Her second blast of the year made it 6-0. Grijalva drove in another run in the fourth on an RBI groundout to give Wingate a seven-run lead.

Barrineau blasted her sixth homer of the season, a three-run shot in the sixth to make it 10-0. The reigning SAC Player of the Week leads the Bulldogs in homers, while also leading the way with a .543 batting average and 25 RBI.

The Trojans plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead in half. Sophomore infielder Katie Nalley (Bowie, Md.) delivered the big hit, a two-run single that made it 10-3.
