Jefferson City, Tenn.----The Wingate University women’s tennis team defeated Carson-Newman College 5-4 in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference. The Eagles fall to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in the league.

The Wingate women dropped two of the three doubles matches, then took four-of-six in singles play for the 5-4 victory. Sophomore Samantha Alschlager (Indian Trail, N.C.) notched two wins on the day, winning 6-1, 6-4 in number five singles, while teaming with senior Hollyn Alberghini (Stanfield, N.C.) for an 8-1 win in number two doubles action.
