Wingate names Akeem Miskdeen assistant men's basketball coach

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University vice-president and director of athletics Steve Poston and head men’s basketball coach Brian Good announce the appointment of Akeem Miskdeen as assistant men’s basketball coach. A 2008 graduate of Queens University of Charlotte, Miskdeen begins his new job immediately.

Community College. While at Laramie County, Miskdeen was a two-time defensive MVP and team captain for the Golden Eagles. He is the school’s all-time assists leader.

“I knew Akeem was destined to be a coach in our first year together as player and coach,” Good says. “He has a selfless attitude toward the game; he is still the hardest working player I’ve yet to coach.”

Good is looking forward to Miskdeen’s coaching contributions. “It is an awesome feeling when one of your former players wants to join your staff,” Good says. “Not only do I find myself very fortunate to have him at Wingate, but I know our current and future players will benefit from his abilities and his work ethic.”

Most recently, Miskdeen was the assistant men’s basketball coach at Mount Olive College for one year. He was the Trojans’ recruiting coordinator. In addition, Miskdeen organized team travel and assisted with strength and conditioning, scouting, academics and on-floor coaching.

Miskdeen also spent one year helping with the Corey Maggette Basketball Camp at Proviso West High School in Hillside, Ill. In addition, Miskdeen worked basketball camps at St. Joseph High School (his alma mater) for three years.

While at St. Joseph, Miskdeen played for legendary head coach Gene Pingatore, the Illinois high school boys’ basketball victories record-holder. Pingatore starred in the movie, Hoop Dreams. He coached NBA superstar Isiah Thomas and 2010 NBA draft pick Evan Turner.
