Odell Turner (Charlotte, N.C.) scored 19 points each as the Bulldogs rallied for a 63-61 South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball road victory over Catawba College Wednesday night in Goodman Gymnasium.
Wingate (7-4 overall, 2-1 SAC) has won four games in a row. Catawba (5-6 overall, 1-2 SAC) was led by junior guard
Justin Huntley (Mooresville, N.C.) and his 17 points. The Bulldogs return home for the first time in over a month Saturday, as Wingate hosts Tusculum College at 4 p.m. The Catawba Indians hit the road the same day, visiting league newcomer Anderson (S.C.) University for a 4 p.m. tip.
Vaughn and Turner combined to hit 14-of-21 shots Wednesday night. Turner had six rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots, while Vaughn recorded three rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Bulldog junior guard

Huntley hit nine-of-11 free throws en route to his team-high 17 markers for the hosts. Freshman guard

Stuart Thomson (Poynton, England) had 10 points and eight rebounds. Moore helped the Catawba bench outscore the Wingate reserves 22-4.
Vaughn scored the game-winning points with two free throws at the 2:19 mark. The charity tosses by the All-SAC performer were the last points of the contest, as Catawba missed two lay-ups and a three-point field goal down the stretch. Ethan Kincaid (Morganton, N.C.) with four seconds remaining helped the visitors seal the deal.
Wingate scored the first seven points of the contest as the Bulldogs never trailed in the opening frame. Wingate shot 53.8 percent (14-of-26) in the first stanza. The Bulldogs led by nine points on three occasions, the final time at 24-15 on a Vaughn jumper with 8:56 remaining in the first half. Wingate led 38-35 at intermission.
Catawba took its first lead of the game with 12:05 to play, as freshman forward
Kejuan Moore (South Boston, Va.) hit a jumper in the paint to give the hosts a 47-46 edge. Classmate
Chris Tyree (Rocky Mount, Va.) hit a triple on Catawba’s next possession to make the score 50-46.
Moore gave the Indians their biggest lead when he hit a lay-up at the 6:44 mark to make the score 57-52 Catawba. Turner answered with an inside hoop. Huntley hit two free throws to give the hosts a 59-54 advantage with 6:17 remaining.

Wingate outrebounded Catawba by a slim 37-34 margin. Turner and Alexander had six boards each, while Kincaid pulled down five caroms. Martin led the Indians with a game-high nine rebounds. He narrowly missed a double-double, as the Hargrave Military Academy product had eight points Wednesday.
