Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University men’s tennis team dropped a 5-4 match to #12 Georgia College, while the Wingate women fell 6-3 to the 30th-ranked Bobcats. The Wingate men’s team is now 1-2 on the season, while the women are 2-1. Both Georgia College teams are 4-0 overall.

The men won four of the six singles matches on the afternoon. Junior Matthew Lichtenstein (Darnestown, Md.) took a 7-5, 6-1 win in number one singles. Junior Flavio Rathsam (Sao Paulo, Brazil) notched a 6-1, 6-2 win in number three singles. Senior Fernando Montemurro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) took a 7-6, 6-4 win in number five singles, while freshman Ryan Forbes (Charlotte, N.C.) won 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 in number six singles.

On the women’s side, freshman Ali Evers (Roswell, Ga.) and junior Samantha Alschlager (Indian Trail, N.C.) teamed for an 8-5 win in number two doubles. In singles action, freshman Olivia Poole (Boca Raton, Fla.) notched a 6-3, 6-1 win in number four singles. Sophomore Helen Goreski (Oakville, Ontario) added a 6-1, 6-3 victory in number six singles action.

The women are back in action Tuesday, traveling to UNC Pembroke for a 2:30 p.m. start. The men are back in action Thursday, hosting Johnson C. Smith at 2 p.m.
