Anderson, S.C.----The number 32 Wingate University women’s tennis team rallied from a 0-4 deficit to take a 5-4 South Atlantic Conference victory over host Anderson (S.C.) University Monday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts. The visiting Bulldogs have won 16 consecutive matches.
Wingate is 18-1 overall and 8-0 in the SAC. The Bulldogs clinch at least a share of the 2011 regular season championship. Wingate shared the 2003 title. Anderson is 9-6 overall and 6-2 in the SAC. The Bulldogs host NAIA powerhouse SCAD Atlanta Friday at 1 p.m. The AU Trojans visit SAC foe Brevard College Tuesday (2 p.m. first serve).
The number 32 team in the Campbell/ITA NCAA Division II national rankings, Wingate lost the three doubles matches for the first time this season. The Bulldogs made a statement in singles, dropping only two sets to pick up the necessary five victories.
