Due West, S.C.----The Wingate University men’s tennis team defeated the Flying Fleet of Erskine College 6-3 in NCAA Division II tennis action Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs win their third straight, improving to 5-2 overall. Erskine falls to 2-2 on the season.
 
Senior Flavio Rathsam (Sao Paulo, Brazil) collected a 6-1, 6-0 win in number one singles for the Bulldogs. Senior Drew Owen (Kitchener, Ontario) won 6-3, 6-2 in number two singles. Freshman Diego Martinez (Queretaro, Mexico) won the first set in number four singles 6-1, and was leading 3-0 when his opponent retired due to injury. Freshman Josh Eardley (Newcastle, Staffordshire, England) added a 6-1, 6-3 victory in number six singles for the Bulldogs.
 
Owen and Martinez teamed for an 8-5 victory in number two doubles. Eardley and freshman Neal Towlson (Warwick, Bermuda) notched an 8-6 win in number three doubles action for the Bulldogs.
 
The Bulldogs return to action next Wednesday, Feb. 28, hosting Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action.
