Due West, S.C.----The Erskine College Flying Fleet defeated Wingate University 6-3 in NCAA Division II women’s tennis action Tuesday afternoon, handing the Bulldogs their first loss of the season. Wingate sees its five-match losing streak come to an end, falling to 5-1 on the season. Erskine improves to 5-2 overall.
 
Junior Kelli Ferguson (Concord, N.C.) notched a 7-5, 6-3 victory in number five singles action for Wingate. Freshman Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) added a 7-5, 6-4 win in number six singles. Wingate’s lone doubles victory on Tuesday came from Williams and sophomore Olivia Poole (Boca Raton, Fla.), who notched a 9-8 victory in number two doubles, winning the tie-breaker 7-5.
 
The Bulldogs return to action next Wednesday, Feb. 28, hosting Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action.
