Salisbury, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs notched a 1-0 victory over the Golden Rams of West Chester University in a rain-shortened softball game Friday afternoon on Day one of the Catawba Invitational Softball Tournament.
Junior outfielder
Kelsey Maffucci (Rockledge, Fla.) provided the offense with an RBI single in the top of the fifth. That would be all of the offense that freshman right-hander
Miranda Paul (Virginia Beach, Va.) would need. She allowed just three hits on the day, while striking out five and walking only one to improve to 6-4 on the season.
Senior catcher
Brittany Barrineau (Monroe, N.C.) was two-for-three with a double, while freshman outfielder
Alexis Burrell (Chesapeake, Va.) went two-for-four with a double.
With rain ending day one early, schedule changes will be made for Saturday’s action. The revised schedule has Wingate playing Mansfield State at 10 a.m. The Bulldogs will take on Kutztown at 4 p.m., while ending the tournament at 8 p.m. against Lock Haven. It is possible that further changes will be announced.
